Thick layer of goop on driftwood?
I received a piece of Aquarium Driftwood from aquabid a few days ago. I let it soak for a couple days, and then some peacock moss came in. It was not sinking because it had not been soaking for a few weeks yet, but I put it in a 15 gallon Betta tank with the peacock moss tied on it, and a Betta cup with substrate and water to weigh it down in the aquarium for now.
I turned the light on this morning, and I saw that some pieces of the wood were covered with a thick looking goo that was 1 inch thick. I touched it, but it did not feel thick. Only appeared that way. This is my first tank with driftwood, so I do not know if it is supposed to be like this until it is fully soaked and sunken. So is this normal? I plan on getting more wood of my other 6 aquariums, but I do not want it to effect the water quality, plants, and more importantly, the fish and inverts.
Any idea's on what it could be and why it is there?

It might be a fungus growing on it due to decay. This happened to me once.
You can bake it at around 250 for a few hours or boil it. That might get rid of it.
Is it like a semi - opaque fuzzy goo? If so, I believe this is normal and will go away after a few weeks.
